Fnac Chiado

Sempre bom voltar a Lisboa. Caras conhecidas, a maior parte desconhecidas.

e tu?

Always good to return to Lisbon. Known faces, most of them, unknown. Being with friends among friends ... When we bagan unfolding this the album live, we had to reinvent some of the songs... some, not all. we now have a new member in the gang, Marco Silva, but I can only call him by Mané ... stories of adventures that have we have already experienced ... there is dust over our memories. Chiado’s Fnac is intriguing; there’s a certain something to it; a certain kind of audience. Long before we begin the preparations of the concert, the first chairs are already taken. In the soundcheck we already hear applauses. And yes, it is strange to hear applauses in the anteroom of the concert. It is as if we were playing for friends ... Anyone who finds Lisbon cold it’s because they were not here today. We still have their eyes in our veins. Are we now one? Will we ever be? In all these miles we’ve traveled, there are minutes of silence that have a different weight; smiles we exchange that are accomplices of other we have already forgotten. We ride the back of the wolf, we are the wolf... and in all of this, we miss the warmth of our den.
During the concert, precisely in the middle of the song Six Blind Days, the light of the entire place went down. Nothing too great. The instruments were all acoustic: the voice, the guitar, the harmonium, the violin ... it was as if we had returned to where we had drank all this drunkenness that precipitates the blood to the tips of our fingers. The only thing left was the sound of the wind licking the canopy of the trees and the throb of the waves. And each of one who was there was indifferent to this crash of electricity. Maybe because we’re coming back from where our collective imagination was asleep, perhaps because they have not yet left the hands fall into spaces of illusion.
What a delicious fantasy ...
The days have been rough, days that do not know the wander of hours, the hours of tar ... and to find the lost members of our pack, has been a long desired surprise.
I do not know, because the sweat fogs my stare in the burning of the my veins, but I can almost bet all the little that is scarcely enough, that I found my eyes across the stage, listening to all my faults and all the tenderness and sincerity with which we finally brought the wolf out of the den.

I remember well when I was broken.
how about you?

Oh well, o Norte!!!

The first days of the road

The last few days have been agitated for the pack: the presentation of the album, showcases, trips.
It Began on the 5th of April with the presentation of "Like the Wolf" at Fnac Coimbra. Playing in Coimbra is always very important to us, after all it’s our city, it’s our friends, our people, and they were the first to know about the wolf. Fnac was really packed and we played for the first time some of songs that we have followed for so many months and it was the first time of sharing outside the Den. We counted with the invaluable help of Miro in the sound and Marco Silva on drums. Marco was a surprise that we had prepared for this afternoon and now he’s going to follow us, to take "Like the Wolf" on the road as closely as possible to the album.

On Monday we went North, Fnac de St ª Catarina and Braga. Oh well, the North! : D Forgeting the camera was really bad, but there are very special moments in polaroids already recorded in our memory. The hotel lost in the trees of Bom Jesus, the trio of jigsaw with pajamas trying to rob the kitchen at dawn, João at the reception than on the second night, had tibias from Braga and a bottle of red waiting for us, the morning walks on the Good Jesus, the night meeting with Jaime, at the alley with a way out, the Francesinha at Vianna, a guided tour of a store of old instruments, the drawings of Luis Belo in Viseu, the mustard sauce in the place of the Captain ... one could say we’ve returned to the south with a full soul!

Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls

Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls,

Amanhã, 6 Abril, é o dia da edição do nosso novo álbum, “Like The Wolf”.

01. Farmhouse
02. Red Pony
03. His Secret
04. Crashing Into The Harbour
05. Like The Wolf
06. Return To Me
07. My Blood
08. Idiot Smile
09. Leap Of Ignorance
10. Six Blind Days
11. The Trial
12. A Little Story

www.myspace.com/ajigsaw
http://www.last.fm/music/A+Jigsaw
http://ajigsaw.hi5.com
http://www.reverbnation.com/ajigsaw

“The Wolf is Comin’ Boys!”

Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls,
Tomorrow, April 6th ist the day of the release of our new album, "Like The Wolf."
For everyone who has been followeing the blog, tomorrow is the day that you must leave the keyboard, and in an orderly fashion, go to the nearest Fnac and buy, order or steal this wolf, for he will be there waiting for you.
To avoid confusion, this is the cover, which was designed by Pedro Freitas:
(see Upwards)

This is a conceptual album, which can be described as follows, more or less in an informal manner:

"The deepest marks that time leave us, occurs during childhood in our state of innocence. We are for a (very, very short) of our existence, diamonds in the rough. Sooner or later, time ends up eroding us.
However, there are images that last, feelings that we do not forget. One is that in which the wolf is like a devil, a monster, the personification of fear. It is an image so strong that it constraints us, consuming the space around us and steals the air that fills it. With age, the perspective changes and fears that we had fade: our eyes now recognize the canine forms of this being.
The concept of this set of songs is of the the illusions that steal our space. As we realize its fall, we will have already been bent by time. When the wolf ceases to be a threatening figure and becomes a mere living being, it becomes the sign of the illusion that has come to an end.
The wolf, which was a threat, now reflects the flaws of a cut diamond. It is already too late, we can’t recover to the state where we were our rough form. The wolf ends up being an illusion/memory of our innocence – that is, indeed, a chimera. "

The list of songs,is arranged as follows:

01. Farmhouse 02. Red Pony 03. His Secret 04. Crashing Into The Harbor 05. Like The Wolf 06. Return To Me 07. My Blood 08. Idiot Smile 09. Leap Of Ignorance 10. Six Blind Days 11. The Trial 12. A Little Story

The second track, Red Pony, is the 1st single, which will now go to air on the radio from north to south of the country and that you can listen via web at:
www.myspace.com / ajigsaw
http://www.last.fm/music/A Jigsaw
http://ajigsaw.hi5.com
http://www.reverbnation.com/ajigsaw

This music had Carlos Ramos on drums, who also gave his grace in the drums of the tracks 1,2,4,6,9,12 (http://www.myspace.com/carlosramosdrummer)
Advancing, in this form more or less technical: the third track, His Secret (and also in the 7th, Return To Me), you can hear the voice of Becky Lee Walters (http://www.myspace.com/beckyleeanddrunkfoot)
On the third and 10th, our partners in crime, Miguel Lima (http://www.myspace.com/thesoakedlamb) and Gito (http://www.myspace.com/gitolima) brought, respectively, drums and upright bass. Where are you guys? May Jack be with you!
Finally, the last song, just like you would enter a bar and leaving the door wide, we have the singing of our Drunken Sailors Choir, consisting of Daniela, Monica, Raquel, Susana, Becky and the infamous Miro Vaz: our tireless helmsman, who made this voyage with us and that accumulated functions of friend, producer and sound engineer. Recorded, mixed and mastered the whole cd, except track 6 that was mastered by the distant Italian Stefano Cappelli (www.creativemastering.com)
Everything else was played by the trio/pack a Jigsaw, where we present you with Banjo, Drums, Glockenspiel, Guitars, Harmonium, Kazoo, Mandolin, melodies, Percussion, Piano, Ukulele, Upright Bass, Violin, Vocals, Xylophone, Auto Harp, Harmonica and many strange sounds.
However, as the cd just comes out tomorrow, you may already have a look at our secondary semi-archive/blog www.ajigsaw.blogspot.com where you can already find the lyrics to “Like The Wolf”, and of our distant “Letters From The Boatman“.
Now is the time to do hit the road and take this wolf for new adventures. We hope to find each one of you that way.
And as to bringing friends, bring twenty or thirty, for if this boat will not sink with three, it will not go to the bottom with the rest of the crew. ..

"Like the Wolf" ouvido por Nuno Ávila :D

Johnny Cash é a referência maior.

“Like The Wolf” foi pensado.

Houve outro pensar.

"Like the Wolf" heard by Nuno Ávila:
"on second album, the a Jigsaw finally find their way. Now, straight and without too many bends. The sound is set: Has as much of folk as of blues. Johnny Cash is the greatest reference.
In "Like The Wolf" the band carries to tape what the trio has been doing while adapting to the road the album "Letters From The Boatman".
The songs have a lot of ground, sometimes more intimate, some more full-blown, with a pinch of an acoustic sound, but where both the violin and the banjo make us walk in the folk American sounds. As a result, the trio give us in this second album a dozen thin-cut crop of songs, but that at the first hearing in the sound are less immediate than the those of the first album. As a result we have an album that becomes more beautiful with each listening. It is a record to taste, full of sublime details. If many like to let the wine breathe and sip with softness, others like to drink all of a stretch. And these are those who are not prepared for such a thin liquid for they may find it difficult to digest. One must give time to time and Let the music flow through our body.
"Like The Wolf" was thought. Came out of the soul. Found Accomplices. High grade for the participation of Becky Lee in the tracks "His Secret" and "Return To Me", where she prints a more sensual air to the music of a Jigsaw. Listening with attentive ears, one notices that on this album the sound of the a Jigsaw is thicker: much thanks to the upright bass and a piano that intertwine in the sound of sweet melodies.
Miro Vaz returns to shine in the production and risks without fear of the recording processes, which fit perfectly to the sound desired by the band.
In "Like The Wolf" there are other processes of creation. There was another thought. The musicians gave themselves differently. João Rui, shapes his voice in order to fit in with the body of the songs. Sometimes he reminds me of Leonard Cohen; he fingerpicks the guitar with soul and makes the banjo cry tunes. Jorri gives body to the sound, sometimes in percussions, sometimes in the upright bass. Susana presents us with her magic violin. But each one of them does not stop there, they go further, much further. This album begins in a lively fashion, particularly with the single "Red Pony"; after briefly gaining a more mousy color, it becomes denser, to come out beautiful and leave as it begins with the sublime "A Little Story." Nice chorus.
Thus, we are faced with an album with strong beliefs, brought by a group that knows what it wants and how to get there. Gone are the days of the sonic guitars. Now it is time to let the wolf howl and to pat him. The doors of the forest are open."

Café-Concerto Torres Novas ::: 7. Março

Dele brotaram músicas ansiosas, reunidas sob um único nome: Like the Wolf.

Aged rose
The boatman’s letters are now tainted with an aged rose colour. The paint has leaked between his journeys and has permeated the ground walked by the a Jigsaws, until eager songs bloomed. These wanted to see the world and were gathered under a single name. They are now part of a Jigsaw’s new album: Like the Wolf. The a Jigsaws came back to us, shaking the water-rain which was still weighting on their shoulders. They licked the slits on their lips caused by the salty seawater. They washed their hands darkened by the earth and bade goodbye to the winter storms. These have challenged their ship while they were in open sea. When they first stepped dry land, there were trees falling over their tracks and the trails were turned into mud. Their eyes had followed the migrant birds. It was still possible to recognize the world’s tonalities on their clothes. Now they are back. The character who gave its name to this album has followed them from afar. Its presence was only felt when the sky darkened and the moon was split into two by its silhouette. At the end of the final journey he came closer. Winter had smoothed his lines, turning them into something familiar. The wolf was longing for a safe place and looked for the a Jigsaws’ company. While he was curled close to Jorri, Susana and João Rui he told plenty of stories. Gradually, the fear was turning into an illusion. The wolf was now a faithful friend, with serene and captivating eyes, happy to survive a harsh winter. He too was longing for the beginning of spring. As soon as the first spring sunrays lighted the earth the a Jigsaws answered the call. They arrived on the 7th of March, when the sun recovered its place. It was in the Teatro Virginia (Torres Novas) where this band dressed themselves with chords extracted from a harmonica and a guitar; from a violin and a keyboard; from a melodica, a harmonium and an upright bass. On the 6th of April, the banjo, the ukulele and the autoharp promise to join this ceremony. After Like the Wolf album’s release, Miro Vaz’s production, Becky Lee’s voice, Miguel’s and Gito’s percussions and upright bass (Soaked Lamb) and Carlos Ramos’ drums (Pluma) will be an illusion, which happened to materialize.

Red Pony (Lyrics)

There are men, begging to be free
Stranded here, against the door
If all of this is real, then the dream is over,
And I, oh my, I am a stranger to you

So what about the moon, it’s mine to steal
So what about the moon, it’s mine to steal, mine to steal, alright!

Red, Red Pony, stand out by my door
Red, Red Pony, stand outside my door, alright

Oh let’s just sing of the old, the good old days
Let’s just bring them back
And hear them on hi-fi stereos

So what about the moon, it’s mine to steal
So what about the moon, it’s mine to steal, mine to steal,
Alright, boys!

Red, Red Pony, stand out by my door
Red, Red Pony, stand outside my door, alright
